Objective of The OLF
The Oromo Liberation Front [OLF] is a political organization that is struggling for the realization of the national self-determination for the Oromo people and establishment of independent state of Oromia. Before the Oromo people were conquered by Abyssinia toward the last decades of the 19th century, they lived under an independent democratic political system, known as the Gadaa system. Ever since the conquest, the people are subjected to different forms of domination by successive rulers of Abyssinia, which later took the name Ethiopia.
In particular, the following is a list of the goals and programmes of the struggle:
-
To vest all power in the people’s congress that determines the policies and elects the government at all administrative levels.
-
To establish local and national system of government based on Gadaa principles and values
-
To institute all free and democratic rights, such as the freedom of expression, assembly, organisation, etc.,
-
To institute a secular government in Oromia that respects the equality of all religions and beliefs.
-
To set up an independent democratic legal system that promotes, protects and guarantees basic and fundamental human rights enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
